About Training and Development

Palabora Copper’s Training Department provides skills development interventions aimed at developing Palabora Copper employees and South African citizens in areas that support the long-term sustainability of the company.  The strategic intent of the department is driven by the following key outcomes:
  • To implement Palabora Copper’s vision of a competent and safe workforce that continuously meets productivity targets;
  • To support the implementation of B-BBEE through meaningful initiatives;
  • To contribute to the National Skills Development Plan as guided by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET); and
  • To drive transformation agenda by creating access to skills development opportunities for Historically Disadvantaged Persons, particularly women.

At Palabora, we understand that tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today. Therefore, we continuously strive to seek, unearth and develop the skills and capabilities of young people in our communities. Furthermore, we believe that investing in and accelerating the development of youth is crucial to alleviate poverty and contribute to the Socio-economic development of Ba-Phalaborwa region and South Africa as a whole.

Our developmental programmes are aimed at building and creating a competent pool of qualified professionals and skilled artisans from which not only Palabora Copper can draw to appease its skills shortage needs but South Africa as a whole. At Palabora, we strive to go beyond compliance, and we conduct our training initiatives with pride and passion because we see the development of people as the right thing to do.

Palabora Copper (PTY) Ltd is an accredited training provider with the MQA and QCTO. We offer the following developmental programmes on a yearly basis to deserving young Southern Africans with preference being given to our host communities.
